05-13-2009

We woke this morning this morning still groggy from the night before. It was 6:50am and we had to be at the Denver Mint by 8am. The mint building was a fairly impressive structure. The entrance was protected by federal officers.

Random Plum Bob in down town Denver.

The capital building.

To enter they made us empty our pockets and take off our belts. We were not allowed to bring in the following items: Cameras, Camera Phones, hand bags book bags, or anything else that resembled a bag, packages, strollers, food, drink, personal grooming items, any pointed items, mace, guns, ammunition, video cameras, tobacco, fireworks, electric stun guns, “Martial arts weapons/devices” or knives of any type. My first thought was…arent knives pointed items? The pointed item list included pens and pencils so…no taking notes in the Treasury Building. My second question dealt with fireworks. Have they had problems in the past of people bringing in bottle rockets and lady fingers? Notice there is nothing on the list about implements that start fires. My final question dealt with the martial art weapons. Have they really had to turn some one away because they simply couldn’t leave their numchucks and throwing stars at home? Anyways I digress.

After the tour we went into the gift shop, where Matt bought a mug. He collects them. We went back to the house where we found Morgan wait for us. We followed her out to Johnny Roberts park to play disk golf. Alexandria met us out there. The course was by far the best we have ever played on. Every hole was just manicured with an awesome creek flowing through the middle of the park itself.

From left to right (Matt, Morgan, Alexandria, Ben).

Every time some one would lose their disk in the water, Alexandria’s dog Leia, would jump in the water and go retrieve the disk. I had never seen a dog actually do something like this. Alexandria had to leave to go to work after 9 holes..the dog went with her. It was not to long after that another disk went plop in the water. This time I was the lucky man out. I was the only one wearing sandals. So I jumped in the water to retrieve the disk. The water was so cold that by the time I could get back out I could not feel my toes. The water running through the creek must have been at least 40 degrees if not colder. We assumed it was all water from snow melt.

Video of Leia retrieving a frisbee.

Afterward the round, Morgan joined us at Chipolta. Once the meal was over, we parted company and headed into the wild blue yonder. The rest of Colorado north of Denver consisted of flat rolling planes with the Rockies that kept a vigilant guard from the west.

Wyoming did not consist of land much different then that of Colorado. The main different in Wyoming proved to be the mountains. Instead of only having a constant set of mountains to the west, we were now surrounded by mountain chains that ran on the east and the west of us.

We were convinced that this was a salt deposit left over as the water line retreated. Turns out this was more then likely ice...

Wyoming Country Side.

More of Wyoming.

When I become a billionair I plan to convert this mountain into my own personal top secret retreat. I would put a helicopter pad on top, and build my house into the mountain much in the same spirit as the Air Force has done with Cheyanne Mountain.

On a side note: We stopped at a store that had a sign on the front door that said, “No shoes, no shirt, no service”. And I thought we had left that stuff in Arkansas...

We continued through the day finally ending in Dubois, WY.

Random deer that just decided to stand in our way while entering Dubois.
