I Guess We Forgot About the Ride Home...

So here it is ....many months past the trip and I noticed we had forgot to post the last couple days. I had posted the pictures and had made a few comments but did not finish an overview. So the post was left here in a draft format just begging to be posted with the rest of the trip...soooo here goes...a few months late and hopefully not to much forgot.

Looking down the strip in Vegas...really rather amazing...middle of a desert and wham - lights, people, extravagance...

The city was amazing...just watch out for the illegals trying to hand you playing cards...
Did I mention that we were in the middle of a desert?

Some desert huh? I have read about how many gallons a day this display looses to evaporation alone...

It is a lot...

Inside ceasar's palace...I was going gaga over all the recreations of Rome. I am not sure Matt was as impressed...

I am a bit surprised that they let me take pictures inside the actual casino...I made it out fine with my camera still intact and my knees as they walked in...

A dome just like that in the pantheon I believe....

The whole ceiling was painted as if it were sky....I can only imagine how long it took to cover this place with paint and make it look good in the process.

Funny looking guy...in a chair....statue.

Here is one reason why we did not post this sooner. We were trying to keep this event hidden from Matt's dad till he got back. We got to meet Pete Rose and Ken Stabler. Ken won a super bowl for the raiders and played at Alabama? It was cool to meet these guys. Pete was a bit pompous but Ken really seemed happy to talk to us.

Shaking hands with a great player

Matt outside the store.
When I build a house I am going to have one of these guys in the gathering area...

Ken even let us put on his super bowl ring...

Because I was with Matt I even was allowed to put on the superbowl ring as well...man oh man that thing was blinged out.

It's the cowboy...

I thought this sign was famous too...but I have got a lot of strange looks after showing it to people....turns out there is a strip club under it....I guess that makes sense given how the sign looks.

They are building a bypass bridge at hoover dam...I was more interested in the bridge then the dam to be honest.

Look at that...they are about to complete the archway of the bridge...after that they will add the road decking .

How would you like to be one of the workers out there slowly extending the arch.

The Hoover Dam...and the bridge leading up to it.

A view of the bridge from the dam.

Is that a surveying monument? I believe it is....

Inside the dam

Elevation sign

In the middle of the dam looking out of one of the grates.

A vent we had to walk over at one point...I couldnt see the bottom.

Exactly what you want to read while inside a concrete structure holding back millions of gallons of water.

Is it just me or is this just another bad sign?

Cool looking symbol on one of the insturments in the dam.

The stairs that kept going down.

This is a solid brass elevator door.

Intake towers...

Survey marker! Matt helped me find all 8 I believe on the dam. The use them to see if the dam is moving.

WW2 bunker near the dam. They were afraid the nazis would try to blow up the dam.

A cow on the road going to meteor crater

Looking inside meteor crater

Rock containing diamonds from a meteorite impact.

Rainbows!!!!
It is a double rainbow

The sun shining to create the rainbow.

I was really amazed by the rainbow. I guess that is why I put so many pictures of it up here. It was a double rainbow that was completed. I have never seen anything like it. It was by far the widest and the brightest rainbow I had ever seen. I said at the time and still agree with it, that "This rainbow alone made the whole trip worth it." The pictures do not accurately capture how amazing it was.

I guess that is it...hope everyone enjoyed it.
